Thanks Tim for this piece.
I have worked for both kinds of leaders; those with humility, compassion and empathy and others with narrow vision (mindset), secret agenda, and inability to appreciate others’ success. I was lucky that I had the first kind during my formative years and I am proud to say that I have given my best for the leader and the company I worked for. Then I came to see the other kind, who are actually not leaders, just petty managers with big titles.
Luckily I am mature enough not to get intimidated by them, but I feel pity for the younger ones who are getting hurt everyday by this narrow minded leadership. I have found that wisdom, humility, being proud in others’ success and accepting responsibility for any failure of the team are the most essential qualities for a leader. Your use of the words “stone cold black” is a perfect description for a leader without these. Thanks again.
